KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Dagangan Bhd (PDB) has entered into a tripartite partnership with Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) and TNB Energy Services Sdn Bhd (TNBES) to install 100 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, ChargEV nationwide by 2018.

The parties will also explore a strategic partnership to increase the number of ChargEV stations gradually to cater to market demand, they said in a joint-statement here today.

The partnership agreement was signed during the 8th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2017) here, today.

"PDB will also look into installing solar photovoltaic (PV) panels at 100 selected stations, therefore, the energy used to power the ChargEV will be fully renewable and completely carbon-free, making it truly green."

The partnership was an extension from the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in 2016 between PDB and GreenTech Malaysia to install 66 ChargEV stations.

To date, 55 stations have been installed at Petronas stations nationwide.

"We will continue to monitor the market response from time to time and will not hesitate to gradually increase the number of ChargEV stations should there be a rising demand for the facility," said PDB Managing Director and Chief Executive OfficerDatuk Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus.

In addition to the EV charging facilities and solar PV panels, GreenTech Malaysia and TNBES would also assist in transforming the selected 100 stations into energy-efficient stations by implementing energy-efficient lightings and air-conditioners and integrating an energy management system in each of these stations.

"TNBES shall provide innovative energy efficient lifestyle solutions that are mutually beneficial to our collaboration partners.

"We believe the collaboration will accelerate the growth of green energy in Malaysia," said TNBES Managing Director Dr Ahmad Jaafar Abd Hamid.

Meanwhile, PDB's commitment towards the greenification of its Petronas stations is in support of Malaysia's target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent by 2030 as pledged during the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference.

"PDB is looking forward to more exciting opportunities under this new synergistic collaboration in support of the national green agenda," it said. - Bernama
