KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 16): Malaysia Venture Capital Management Bhd (MAVCAP) has appointed Noor Amy Ismail as its chief operating officer (COO) and Paramjit Singh Gill as its chief investment officer (CIO), effective Aug 1.

In a statement on Tuesday (Aug 16), chairman Tunku Alizakri Alias said that as the largest venture capital (VC) firm in Malaysia, MAVCAP's mandate is to continuously advance the tech industry by onboarding highly capable professionals from abroad and locally with global familiarity.

“We are fortunate to have individuals of Noor [Amy]’s and Paramjit’s calibre and expertise to spearhead MAVCAP’s impact investment, based on sustainability measurements and digital transformation, under the leadership of our chief executive officer Shahril Anas Hassan Aziz,” he said.

Alizakri said Noor Amy brings close to 24 years of corporate and small and medium enterprise (SME) experience across diverse industries in Malaysia and internationally.

According to him, she has held leadership roles in firms such as Deloitte Touche, Media Prima Bhd, the Prime Minister’s Office, Mediacorp of Temasek Holdings (Singapore), InvestKL and FGV Holdings Bhd, among others, and co-founded a logistics and self-storage SME in 2006.

Noor Amy is a Sloan Fellow of the London Business School, and currently a doctoral candidate at Brunel University, London, specialising in Malaysia’s SME inter-collaboration framework for digital adoption.

She is also a council member of a global social impact non-governmental organisation supported by Social Value International.

Meanwhile, Paramjit has extensive experience spanning over 13 years in regional corporate investment banking, structured finance and private equity.

He began his career at Maybank Investment Bank Bhd, and subsequently joined OCBC Bank Bhd as a director and the country head of Malaysia for the mezzanine capital unit, with assets under management of over RM3 billion.

During his tenure, he led various regional corporate transactions across the bank’s core markets, covering various sectors and industries.

CEO Shahril said Noor Amy and Paramjit possess in-depth experience and proven outstanding track records.

“We are confident that they will continue to further drive MAVCAP forward in championing a vibrant VC ecosystem for Malaysia, and spurring local and regional opportunities for tech start-ups and entrepreneurs,” he added.
