KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 19): MyEG Services Bhd said it is still finalising terms of an immigration-related services concession with Putrajaya, as it confirmed it had stopped accepting applications from customers on its portal.

The group said it has stopped accepting applications “temporarily” since Sept 15. The halt will be effective “until further notice”, MyEG said.

“This is to allow the finalisation of the terms of the concession with the government of Malaysia,” it said in its filing.

However, the group did not elaborate on the reason it had continued to accept the applications from customers between late May and early September, when it was still discussing the terms of the concession with the government then.

Recall that MyEG’s three-year concession for immigration-related services was scheduled to end on May 22 this year, following an extension from May 2020.

In July, MyEG said it had received a notification letter dated July 4 from the Ministry of Home Affairs to confirm that the Ministry of Finance has agreed to an extension for the concession.

At the time, MyEG said the terms of the extension “will be finalised pursuant to further discussion with the government in due course”. An agreement to formalise the extension “will be signed at a later stage”, it said then.

The filing also did not touch on the Home Ministry’s recent statement on the procedure for applicants to reclaim funds or complete the applications successfully at the Immigration Department.

“Should there be any material information or developments pertaining to the resumption of the Immigration related services as well as the extension, the relevant announcements will be released in a timely manner to Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd,” MyEG said.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah on Sept 19 said employers whose applications are stuck at MyEG will need to proceed to the Immigration Department to resolve these issues.

However, the Lenggong MP did not elaborate on the status of MyEG’s contract, and the reason why its portal remained accessible for payment in the last few months.

Shares in MyEG finished 0.05 sen or 0.62% lower at 80.5 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM6.02 billion.
