KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) communication director Fahmi Fadzil refuted claims made by Pahang Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah that Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) voters favoured PN in Pelangai.

He said based on the Pelangai by-election results, it was proven that Saifuddin's claims were inaccurate.

"Saifuddin's claim that all Felda voters are with Perikatan Nasional (PN) is not true.

"Out of these three, the majority, within 10%, leans toward Perikatan Nasional, 10% leans toward the unity government, and one more lost with a margin of 5 votes," he said during a press conference after officiating World Post Day at Pos Malaysia HQ.

He added that for one of the voting channels, the elderly in Felda strongly supported the unity government, while at another two Felda channels, the younger generation, also favoured the unity government.

Fahmi, who is also the Communication and Digital minister emphasised that information delivery needs to be more accurate.

"More importantly, the outcome of the Pelangai by-election proves that the people reject racial politics, the 3R issue (race, religion and royalty) and support the Unity Government," he added.

Yesterday, Saifuddin said PN secured wins at two of the three district polling centres (PDM) located at Felda settlements.

He said PN has won the Felda votes and the Malay voters' support towards PN has increased. This, again proves that Felda schemes are no longer a BN or Umno fortress.

Saifuddin said PN has retained the support from the young voters in Pelangai and this proves that the coalition has the potential to replace Umno-BN who largely depend on DAP-Pakatan Harapan for support.

On Saturday, Barisan Nasional (BN) retained the Pelangai state seat with a 2,949 majority, a dip compared to the outcome in the 15th General Election.

BN's candidate Barisan Nasional Datuk Amizar Abu Adam secured 7,324 votes to beat his Perikatan Nasional (PN) rival, Kasim Samat who received 4,375 votes.

Independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli bagged 47 votes.
