KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 26): Bursa Malaysia Bhd announced that it will reinstate full-day trading on the eve of Chinese Lunar New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, a shift from the stock exchange’s previous practices of having half-day trading ahead of major festive holidays.

Lunar New Year’s eve falls on Feb 9 this year, while the Hari Raya holiday dates will be announced in April.

“This move, made following industry consultation, is to enhance investor access to the market ahead of the festive period,” said the stock exchange operator in a statement on Friday.

“Both securities and derivatives markets will be opened under normal trading hours on Feb 9, 2024. Nevertheless, in accordance with Bursa Malaysia Derivatives’ Procedure, there will be no T+1 night trading session on Feb 9, 2024.

“Bursa Malaysia and its subsidiaries will be opened per normal business hours,” it added.

The local stock exchange will be closed on Feb 12 (Monday) in conjunction with Lunar New Year public holiday, and resume operations on Feb 13 (Tuesday), said Bursa Malaysia.
