Thunderstorms expected in multiple areas in Peninsular Malaysia on Wednesday

PETALING JAYA: Thunderstorms are expected to envelop multiple regions across Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia until 6pm on Wednesday (April 24), says The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

According to MetMalaysia, six states in Peninsular Malaysia were expected to see thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.

These include the northern states of Kedah (Sik, Baling, Kulim dan Bandar Baharu), Penang and Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang dan Muallim).

Central states include Pahang (Lipis, Jerantut, Bentong dan Temerloh), Selangor (Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat dan Sepang) and Negeri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah dan Rembau).

Affected Sarawak regions include Kuching, Samarahan, Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah (Face), Kapit (Belaga), Bintulu (Tatau) and Miri (Telang Usan).

Meanwhile the Sabah: West Coast (Papar and Ranau), Tawau (Kunak and Lahad Datu) and Sandakan (Tongod, Telupid, Kinabatangan and Beluran) are expected to see similar stormy weather.

Thunderstorm warnings are issued when there are early signs of a forecasted thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm/hour that were expected to occur close to or over an hour.

Road users in the affected areas, returning from work or otherwise, are advised to take note of the predicted weather and take necessary precautions on the road.
