KUALA LUMPUR: Claims of dissatisfaction among Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) associate wing members after Perikatan Nasional (PN) accepted Malaysian Indian Progressive Party (MIPP) are merely personal views and do not represent the party as a whole.

PN Selangor chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said that the party's policy is inclusive and moderate.

"We welcome any individuals and groups that accept PN's policy to join us. Diversity is an important asset for us to continue progressing," he told Berita Harian.

Azmin was commenting on a statement by an associate wing leader who revealed the emergence of dissatisfaction among its members after PN accepted MIPP as its new component party.

The leader also questioned the statement by MIPP president, P Punithan, that the entry of the party reflects PN's commitment to defend the Indian community.

FMT, quoting sources, reported that an associate wing leader said that the entry of the new component party was "just a branding exercise".

He claimed that PN cannot expect to gain non-Malay support by "promoting non-Malay faces".

He also claimed that the associate wing is upset, especially its Indian leaders, who were not even consulted about MIPP joining the coalition.

"PN should strive to expand its voter base by addressing fundamental issues affecting the economic development of the Indian community and ensuring equal opportunities and social equality," he said.

Meanwhile, internal sources from the wing did not deny the existence of dissatisfaction among Bersatu members within the Indian community.
