KKB by-elction: PRM candidate Hafizah says her community work helps her understand voters' challenges

HULU SELANGOR: Hafizah Zainudin, 50, the Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, said her extensive experience in activism and social work motivated her to run in the election.

Hafizah, a social activist, said her involvement in community work had helped her understand the challenges faced by the people, potentially benefiting voters.

"Before this election, I was involved in social work, helping various communities, especially the B40 group.

"I am committed to continuing the work I have been doing as a social activist.

"Many people are facing difficulties, and when they require aid, there is often no one to help them.

"I have even helped people deal with loan sharks," she told the 'New Straits Times'.

She said she wanted bring change to voters.

"I will not make empty promises like some of the other candidates.

"Instead, I will fulfil the commitments I make."

She pledged to uphold her activist principles and help those in need, regardless of the polls outcome.

She unveiled her six-point manifesto for the by-election

1. Enhancing and encouraging economic growth without usury and increasing income for residents, especially small- and medium-scale enterprises, and establishing community cooperatives in every residential area and village;

2. Establishing a herbal plant technology hub for traditional medicine;

3. Encouraging residents to engage in ecotourism and economic activities;

4. Establishing service centres for residents affected by experimental gene therapy and Covid-19 vaccines;

5. Ensuring public infrastructure facilities, government buildings, police stations and drainage systems are in clean, good and safe condition; and,

6. Increasing welfare allocations for low-income civil servant families, women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and children.

The by-election sees a four-cornered battle between Pakatan Harapan's Pang Sock Tao, Perikatan Nasional's Khairul Azhari Saut, Hafizah and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

Polling is on May 11.
