KUALA LUMPUR: Over 100 KFC outlets have temporarily closed across the country following boycotts which have run for about six months now, according to a report by Chinese daily Nanyang Siang Pau. 

The report cited dated from Google Maps.

Business Times has reached out to QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd for comments. As at time of writing, a QSR spokesperson said responses are pending KFC management approval.

A nationwide boycott of Starbucks, McDonalds and KFC outlets have been ongoing since the start of the Israel-Palestine conflict in October 2024.

The Nanyang report said more than 10 per cent of KFC branches across the country have suspended operations.

It said a total of 108 stores nationwide have temporarily closed as of April 27.

Kelantan was the hardest hit, with nearly 80 per cent or up to 21 branches temporarily shut.

KFC has been a part of our country for over 50 years, boasting more than 700 branches nationwide.

QSR, the entity overseeing the KFC franchise in Malaysia, also manages restaurants in Singapore, Brunei, and Cambodia, along with over 480 Pizza Hut outlets across Malaysia and Singapore.

Johor Corporation (JCorp), the investment arm of the Johor state, holds the largest stake in QSR, which, along with its subsidiary KFC Holdings (M) Bhd, was privatised in February 2013.
