HULU SELANGOR: PKR deputy Information chief (1) Datuk R. Ramanan plans to hold discussions with Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil to establish a task force aimed at preventing the issue of misinformation among the Indian community.

Ramanan said many Indians were still unaware of the various assistance provided by the federal government.

He suggested that this task force effectively utilises various social media platforms to ensure the dissemination of information regarding all forms of assistance available.

"If we establish a unit, such as an Indian task force unit or a Bumiputera task force unit, it could be in the form of a blogspot, TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook, where all information regarding government assistance can be obtained from the page.

"When they came (to the town hall) earlier, they were angry because they said the prime minister did nothing for them (the Indian community).

"After we explained what the government had given to them, they were surprised, as they did not know that the government provided such assistance," he told reporters after the Vanikam Madani town hall programme here today.

Approximately 200 Indian residents from Kuala Kubu Baharu attended the programme.

Also present was the Selangor Menteri Besar special officer for the Indian community, Dr Gunaraj George.

When asked if the confusion arose from opposition narratives on TikTok, Ramanan did not deny the matter, saying that residents may not be aware that the information they received were untrue.

"They are indeed confused because, as I learned earlier (during the town hall), they've been inundated with falsehoods, sensationalism, and baseless accusations.

"Bad news sells. Therefore, it is imperative that we address this misperception and shift our mindset immediately," he said.
