PETALING JAYA: The FLYsiswa flight ticket subsidy is back, with public tertiary education institution students once again able to get up to a RM300 discount for domestic flights.

In a Thursday (May 2) statement, the Transport Ministry said the initiative would resume immediately and that students may begin checking for their eligibility through their Transport Ministry website https://subsidiudara.mot.gov.my/.

After verification, students can apply for subsidised air ticket purchase assistance from any one airline, including Malaysia Airlines (MASwings and FireFly), AirAsia, or Batik Air, through the respective airline's website.

“The chosen airline will then issue students a digital voucher worth RM300 as a credit card for purchasing flight tickets.

“If the ticket price purchased is less than RM300, the remaining balance of the digital voucher will remain in the credit shell and can be used for subsequent ticket purchases,” the ministry said.

The voucher application period for flight ticket purchases would be from May 2, 2024, to Nov 30, 2024, and it would be redeemable for flight ticket purchases until Dec 31, 2024.

Flight ticket purchases for travel past the voucher redemption deadline are also allowed.

Currently, only students still registered in public universities, polytechnics, community colleges, matriculation colleges, and teacher education institutes until December 31 2023, would be eligible for the returning subsidy as part of its first phase.

Newer students, for the admission period from January 1 to March 31 this year, would be included in the subsidy’s second phase, which will start later this year in July.

“If students find themselves ineligible, they can check and appeal to the Higher Education Ministry or the Education Ministry through their respective educational institutions.
