KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (Maicsa) has embarked on a mission to empower the next generation of chartered secretaries and governance professionals through a series of innovative youth-focused initiatives.

The three pivotal initiatives driving the youth empowerment efforts are the launches of the Young Governance Professional Award,  establishment of the Young Company Secretaries Working Group and the inception of Toastmasters for Youth.

"Embracing our role as the foremost governance institute, we are dedicated to shaping tomorrow's corporate leaders with unwavering commitment to ethics and governance.

"Through initiatives like the Young Governance Professional Award, we illuminate pathways to excellence, leaving an indelible mark on the governance landscape. As we launch the second edition, we celebrate talent and dedication, showcasing the pinnacle of excellence," said Maicsa president Simon Yeoh, who is also the chief judge for the competition.

One of the judges is from the Securities Commissio (SC), further reinforcing support from regulatory bodies to foster governance excellence among the youth.

The award features case study competitions focused on governance, inviting participation from both final-year Bachelor of Corporate Administration (BCA) students and candidates enrolled in collaborative masters programme from selected universities namely Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management & Technology, Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, and Putra Business School.

Maicsa chief executive officer Justin J Anthony said a recent meeting with the SC underscored its commitment to nurturing future talent, notably through its active participation in the SC's capital market graduate programme.

In line with the government's call for youth empowerment, Anthony said empowering the youth is not merely a mission but our imperative in shaping a brighter future.

"When good governance is in effect, we fortify the foundation for a vibrant corporate landscape, paving the way for a prosperous Malaysia and beyond," he added.
