PUTRAJAYA: The move to increase the minimum overall monthly income of civil servants to RM2,000 is a bold step in the right direction, says the Congress of Unions of Employees in Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs).

Its president Datuk Dr Adnan Mat said the planned revamp of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) was a long-awaited relief for civil servants nationwide.

He also said the increase of over 13% to civil servant salaries effective December this year was necessary to help them cope with the rising cost of living.

“This brings relief to civil servants at all levels as it will increase their disposable net pay.

“The government should also continue to take the initiative by providing better welfare for civil servants to reward them for their devotion to the people and country,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He urged all civil servants to continue working with the government to provide the best service to the people to help improve the economy.

“Civil servants as facilitators for the people and the economic sector need to perform their duties with full trust and responsibility.

“Improve yourself with the necessary skills to ensure that the public service is always relevant to the current needs of the people and the economic sector,” he added.
