PETALING JAYA: Three senior officers, including an Assistant Commissioner, have been arrested as part of an investigation into an alleged extortion case, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

In a Friday (May 3) statement, the Inspector-General of Police confirmed the arrests, which were made at the Jalan Tun Razak area.

The arrests were made based on a police report regarding a RM1.25mil extortion case.

"Three senior officers, aged 38 to 50, with the ranks of Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Superintendent, and Inspector, were arrested. Preliminary investigations showed that all suspects had denied involvement in the case being investigated.

"A remand order will be obtained on May 4," he said.

He added that the case is being investigated for extortion.

"The case is still in its investigative phase, and the police urge everyone not to speculate on it as it could disrupt investigations. The police assure us that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly, and efforts are being made to collect information and evidence to ensure that all those involved will face justice," he said.
