GEORGE TOWN: The recent announcement of more than 13 per cent increase in civil servants' salary is based on performance and not automatic, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. 

He said non-performing civil servants would be excluded from getting the remuneration.

"It may be automatic for about 95 per cent of the civil servants.

"But for the remaining four or five per cent problematic ones, they will be denied the salary increase.

"We will provide a mechanism to ensure they are denied the salary increase.
