IPOH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he will meet representatives from tech giant Google next week.

While he did not provide specific details of the meeting, Anwar attributed the increase in confidence among major global companies to invest and expand their operations in Malaysia to the good governance upheld by his administration.

"Two days ago, Microsoft has announced RM10.5 billion investment in Malaysia. Next week, Google plans to come here," Anwar said in his speech at the Jalinan Kasih Madani programme with the Chinese community in the Tambun parliamentary constituency here today.

Microsoft on Tuesday announced that it will invest RM10.5 billion over the next four years to support Malaysia's digital transformation - the single largest investment in its 32-year history in the country.

Its chairman and chief executive officer Satya Nadella said the company aims to build a "world class AI infrastructure" that will be made available to Malaysia.

Its investment includes building cloud and AI infrastructure in Malaysia as well as creating AI skilling opportunities for an additional 200,000 people in the country.

Anwar, at the same event here, also shared with the crowd his meetings with representatives from Saudi Arabia-based renewable energy giant ACWA Power during his visit to Saudi Arabia recently.

"Three days ago, I just returned from Saudi Arabia to try to bring in more investments in the oil and gas industry to Pengerang, Johor.

"During a meeting with (representatives from) ACWA Power, they commended us as there were no longer the practise of 'komisen-komisen' (asking a sum of commission for development projects or investments).

"If I find any leaders in this country involved in such practices, I will kick them out. Our country must be 'clean' (free from corruption and abuse of power). Only then will people (investors) come (to our country) and help to create many job opportunities," he said.
