KUANTAN: The sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has proposed to the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Muip) and state government to establish the syariah supreme court as its apex court here.

He said Pahang currently has three levels of syariah courts namely lower, high and appeal court, and another level will be created in the state's syariah court system.

"I recently suggested to Muip and the state government to set up the syariah supreme court. This is to help facilitate efforts to further strengthen the Islamic legal system," he said when delivering his royal address at the closing of the International Conference on Contemporary Education in the Islamic World (ICCEIW) here today.

Meanwhile, Al-Sultan Abdullah said Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (Unipsas) here will soon have an Arabic language centre.

"Since we already have an Islamic university in Pahang, I hope Unipsas will emerge as one of the best in the country. This is a 'titah keramat' (sacred decree) and I hope whoever becomes the Menteri Besar and vice-chancellor will ensure Unipsas becomes a respected university in the region."

He said a knowledge institute will be built in Kota Sultan Ahmad Shah (KotaSAS) and Tengku Panglima Raja Brigadier Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah will be responsible for spearheading efforts to establish the centre.

Meanwhile, Al-Sultan Abdullah called on students and undergraduates across Pahang to embrace the use of artificial intelligence(AI), describing it as the way forward.

"Those who fail to utilise or adopt AI technology will be left out so I hope students will give priority to embrace AI sufficiently," he said.
