KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Bersatu has not decided whether to cooperate with any party in the coming state election, says the party's Armada chief Muhammad Affan Jumahat.

"In matters of political cooperation, Sabah Bersatu takes the position that any decision related to the party's direction and preparations for the state polls will be considered, discussed, and refined unanimously with the state and national leadership," he said on Tuesday (May 7).

His statement comes amid reports that Bersatu is considering cooperating with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

When asked during a press conference last weekend, Muhammad Affan said Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin did not mention cooperating with GRS in the coming state election.

"The matter was not even discussed at the Sabah Bersatu convention," he said.

He said Muhyiddin stated that Bersatu will contest the state elections together with component partners under the Perikatan Nasional coalition.

Sabah Bersatu was severely crippled after Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor led an exodus from the party to eventually lead Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) that aligned itself with the national unity government of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, following the Nov 2022 general election.

Beluran MP Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee took over as Sabah Bersatu chief after the party lost all its assemblymen in the exodus.

GRS comprises a seven-member local coalition.
