KUALA KUBU BAHARU: A Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader has dismissed claims on the lack of participation by the Sarawak-based ruling coalition leaders during the campaigning for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat by-election.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) women's vice-chief Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri described such an allegation as political polemics being played by the opposition to discredit Pakatan Harapan candidate for the by-election Pang Sock Tao.

"I am here (in Kuala Kubu Baharu), as are other GPS leaders and elected representatives such as Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

"Each of us have our own methods of campaigning for Pang in the by-election at the state seat. GPS rarely engages in political rhetoric, and our presence demonstrates strong support for the federal government."

"We need to be wise since such accusations and attacks are normal in politics. I don't need to quarrel with PN (in this matter)," she told reporters here today.

PBB is the backbone and one of the four component parties in GPS.

It was reported that PN raised concerns about the absence of key leaders from the unity government, including GPS representatives, in supporting the PH candidate's campaign for the by-election.

The coalition also questioned the willingness of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to assist Pang's campaign, alleging that they did not attend any programmes organised by parties aligned with the unity government.

Nancy, who is also the Women, Family, and Community Development Minister, said GPS's support for Pang was evidenced by the presence of several coalition representatives who assisted the community in Kuala Kubu Baharu

"We ensure that GPS needs to be here (in Kuala Kubu Baharu). And God willing, we will always be together," she said.
