KOTA KINABALU: The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister urges Sabahans to register as members of Co-Opbank Pertama (CBP) so it can open more branches and benefit more people.

Datuk Ewon Benedick recommended that CBP open new branches in rural Sabah, especially in Keningau.

“This is my request as a Sabahan who sees the potential in Keningau, but it is up to CBP to decide,” he said when officiating the CBP Papar branch at Parklane City Benoni on Friday (May 10).

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, who is also a Papar Member of Parliament, was also present.

The latest branch was the fourth established in this state after Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, and Sandakan, which opened in January this year.

“With this Papar facility, we hope to extend banking services to the district community and encourage cooperative practices.

“We wish to see CBP opening more branches in Sabah beyond this fourth one, so with more people signing up as members, this would facilitate towards this end,” Ewon added.

Meanwhile, CBP chairman Datuk Baharom Embi said the bank has gone through several rebranding processes since its formation in 1950.

“CBP aims to have 36 branches nationwide by 2026,” Baharom added.
