Mr. Wong graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University in Melbourne, Australia in 1999 with a Bachelor of Business (major in Accountancy). He is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and CPA Australia.

Upon graduation, Mr. Wong Koon Wai commenced his professional career in July 2000 in the audit and assurance field until June 2011. He left Crowe Malaysia PLT in June 2011 as a senior manager. During his tenure in the audit firms, he performed audit and assurance works where he gained experience in handling corporate transactions. He also supervised audit teams, performed audit planning works, ensured compliance with auditing and accounting standards, consolidation works, basic tax computation. He also liaised with both privately owned and public listed companies for audit purpose. During his professional career, he was also involved in transactional services engagement, including mergers and acquisition, funds raising corporate exercises as well as IPOs in Malaysia and Australia.
In July 2011, he joined Oriental Castle Sdn Bhd ("Oriental") as a financial controller where he oversaw the finance and accounting functions of Oriental's group of companies in Malaysia, Singapore, China, Vietnam and Indonesia. He resigned from Oriental Castle Sdn Bhd in September 2012.
In October 2012, he joined the Malaysian Institute of Accountants in Kuala Lumpur as a technical director where he oversaw the overall direction and coordination of the activities of the said division. In October 2014, he resigned from the Malaysian Institute of Accountants in Kuala Lumpur.
Subsequently, he joined Global Line Network Sdn Bhd as a Chief Operating Officer where he took on primary responsibilities for shaping the company's operational policies, rules, initiatives, and objectives of the said company from November 2014 to September 2018. Since November 2014, he has been actively engaged in various entrepreneurial endeavours, both as an investor and as a corporate advisor, offering consultancy on financial and corporate affairs for publicly listed companies.
Since August 2020, he assumes his roles as Pappajack Berhad's Chief Financial Officer.
