I agree with @KYWoo as a check back to last year’s dividend of 51 sen was announced on 31 Dec 2019 and Special dividend of 14 sen and full payment details was announced on 10 Jan 2020. Hoping for a similar repeat in Jan21.

also to add, VN domestic sales (units) YOY Sept20 decreased by c.400 units (17%) from 2.3mil units from Sept 19. Considering a covid19 disruption, the decrease is well within acceptable terms.

VAMM reported domestic sales of 677k units in Q3Sept20 vs 518k units in Q4Jun20, 31% jump in sales units.

The million dollar Q is, which motor make in VN takes the lead of the 677k units.

@RainT....i have studied and learnt a lot from this company since I started investing in this company back in 2015 and have collected and held positions over the years. I’m no one...but just an ordinary investor who buys into the fundamental strength of what a company can deliver. One can see this through the financial statements. This company has always been shy from the crowd and refused coverage by analysts ( vice versa) due to it’s high price inelasticity. Not many people know of their core business, ie yamaha manufacturer and distributor, as many are still confused other industrial products, eg roofing and ceramic tiles. Therefore, I can only hope in time to come, company restructure exercise to spin-off the irrelevant segments of the company and concentrate on the core business of motorcycle.

Unfortunately the current market is fueled with noise and speculation, the KLSE index is no longer weighted by fundamentals but dominated by the healthcare and gloves sector. I can only be patient and ride through this episode like everyone else.

@puppykitten sales are picking up in most retail businesses as consumers are happy to spend on material purchases in the absence of travel plans and also impulse buying in these depressing times.
also not forgetting the governments initiative in sales tax exemption on motor vehicles to spur the purchases is timely and should see higher sales throughout the rest of the year.

HLYM has been launching new models lately, check out motomalaya on FB yo keep up with the motorcycle launches. What is lacking in the industry is the monthly sales report by names, similar to those done on cars. I can’t find this report crucial in gauging how well the demand for motorcycles and yamaha is in the market. I’m sure there’s such report but have exhausted searches in google and other motorcycle fan pages on FB.

Anyway, the Q2 results come november is the one to look for and to prove our guess in revenge buying is a reality!

@puppykitten....i agree on the new appointment of the GMD. the company has been flying on autopilot all these while, indicating that the company can still produced strong results without much stewardship.

I strongly hope with the new appointment will send an indication of more good things to come for this company. In yamaha we believe!

based on previous quarters dividend declaration trend, the next dividend declaration is in Sept. so unless there's an announcement to say otherwise, we can expect a dividend come Sept.

investors should be lucky that the company is not giving a profit warning. Then there's reason to be worried.

@stanicmail....i have no access to the order book. I am going with the assumption that the company would update their order book for the rest of the year if there's any deviation, and will announce of any good or bad news. The fact that management have got the confidence to mention of a profitability for the rest of the FY 2020 year means they are within the confines of their budget.

Management seems confident that company will remain profitable for rest of 2020 (notes to the accounts). They would have adjusted their budget accordingly in view of covid19 effect and as long as their order book for this year remain realistic, they are confident of making such a remark, pandemic or not. Management is forward looking. I wouldnt worry too much as all the bad news are already out for this year.

Makes a lot of sense @kywoo hopefully with it’s strong cash flow the company is able to weather the storm

Special dividend is not impossible no doubt but 1sen increment can also be special dividend. Don’t keep your hopes high my friends, lest you be disappointed ..... QLC has everything well planned out for all.... but unfortunate we are not on his gravy train.

@remus... price suppression because management does not want price to fluctuate on reported results and interim dividend. Think about it, if you are an owner of a listed company would you not want your counter to thrive on good set of numbers and dividends? Unless you want to control the price within an expected level for whatever reason, best to suppress it before reporting results so that it will be within a level that is expected. This is my theory and observation.

@remus... it’s hard to understand this counter as it’s full of pleasant surprises, albeit textbook theories shed little light to it. I have been an active investor in this counter since 2015 and still hold until this very day.
At the beginning we thought the price suppression was because of privatisation until this was ruled out by management in the current AGM that has just passed. Personally I think privatisation is still on the cards as the the counter has traded wat below its industry PE. I will not go into details of it’s PE as this has been discussed at length by other contributors.
This counter is mainly held privately by the HL group of companies under the shrewdest and sharp investment wisdom of QLC. Now most of QLC lists of companies are very well managed, take the likes of HLB. It is difficult to gauge what QLC thinks or his next move will be but it will be to his steward advantage. This counter has grown by heaps and bound and there are not many companies in bursa that stands out as much as this counter in terms of its fundamentals. It still bags the question why it is traded so low. I can only think of privatisation in the future and preservation of wealth within the HL group of companies.
In other words, management has very little emphasis on shareholders wealth enhancement. This counter has been trading under the radar for as Long as I can remember and perhaps it is management decision to do so. There’s absolutely no coverage by funds and average volume is illiquid. Every counter on bursa trades on strong growth but not this. It seems to be happy at where it is, status quo.
I just can’t get my head around it.

prices usually suppressed on earnings reporting month.....management controls it internally....has always been the case. One just have to look at the historical prices during earnings reporting month to understand this better.

relax brothers.....if you hold this counter long enough, you will understand the price is well controlled. Cash rich company what is there to worry?
