Researchers Race to Advance Viral Disease Identification as COVID-19 Spreads

5 March 2020

Todos Medical Ltd. (OTCQB: TOMDF) announced earlier this week the "publication of data from a human clinical study in the scientific journal Analytical Chemistry entitled 'Differential Diagnosis of the Etiologies of Bacterial and Viral Infections Using Infrared Microscopy of Peripheral Human Blood Samples and Multivariate Analysis'. The data demonstrate that the use of the Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy technique on peripheral blood samples yields a differential diagnosis when seeking to make a clinical diagnosis between patients with viral infections, bacterial infections and healthy controls.

'With the recent explosion of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) worldwide, definitively diagnosing viral infections versus bacterial or other types of infections that present with similar symptoms has become paramount in order to appropriately triage patients and guide treatment decisions for healthcare professionals,' said Gerald Commissiong, President & CEO of Todos Medical.

'Todos' proprietary FTIR blood testing platform that focuses on the immune system's reaction to cancer has received CE Marks in Europe for the diagnosis of breast cancer and colon cancer, has recently achieved strong analytical performance results from our proprietary sample preparation methods, and is currently enrolling a pre-commercial breast cancer study in Romania with distribution partner Orot+ (a division of Orot Luces) ahead of an expected commercial launch in Romania later this year.

Based on these recent successes and this publication from the Company's licensors at Ben Gurion University, we have now formally begun to evaluate the commercial feasibility of applying our technology towards the diagnosis of bacterial and viral infections, including coronavirus.

probability Demand for HDD Storage Booming: 240 EB Shipped in Q3 2019

November 18, 2019 3:00 PM EST

Demand for storage is stronger than ever as, in addition to growing user-generated data, machine-generated data now requires a formidable amount of storage space and will need even more in the future as the number of connected devices increases. Since the bulk of data continues to be stored on hard drives, it is not surprising that the third quarter was particularly successful for HDD makers, which despite the dent that flash sales are making, still set a record in terms of total shipped capacity

probability Is Covid-19 a blessing in disguise for consumer electronics sales in UAE?

By Naushad K. Cherrayil 3 days ago

Retailers report increase in March online sales due to shift in work culture, fuelled by PCs, TVs, gaming consoles and small appliances

The remote work and e-learning initiatives to help slow the spread of the coronavirus are giving rise to an unprecedented surge in online consumer electronics sales in March in the UAE, retailers, vendors and analysts said.

Performance at electronics retailers is hinting at benefits from the shift in work culture despite weak consumer confidence at the start of the year.

Governments, students and enterprises have been advising people to stay safe indoors and that has helped increased sales in PCs, TVs, gaming consoles and small appliances.

Ashish Panjabi, COO at Jacky’s Business Solutions and Board Member at Dubai Computer Group, said that sales of PCs and TVs have been better.

“There were three waves – e-learning, the government sector’s work from home and enterprises’ work from home initiatives. These three waves together happened in March but the biggest issue was supply chain as the surge in demand was not predicted,” he said.

Till the stores were opened, Panjabi said that laptop sales were excellent and later shifted to online when stores were closed.

However, he said that there was a sudden spike in TV sales as more people are watching Netflix by sitting at home.

Jacky’s online PC sales were up by about four times in March when compared to February.

Paul Collins, General Manager for Middle East at Acer, said that March has been good for the company in the UAE.

“We have different demographics in the country, so different people buy PCs in different price segments. Sales at Carrefour, LuLu and Amazon have almost tripled from the shift in work culture in March. More entry-level laptops are depleted and now we are seeing a demand for high-end thin and light laptops,’ he said.

However, he said that Acer is not facing any shortage of supplies and “we are strategically placed and get regular shipments from China and Taiwan. Our factories in China, which are at 80% production currently, are two weeks away from running at 100%. Getting products into the country is not an issue”.

“We do not know how long the impact of Coronavirus outbreak will last. People had moved their buying behaviour from stores to online in the last four weeks,” Collins said.

As people work from home and distant learning is gaining traction, he said that there is a strong uptake for Chromebooks and gaming PCs and it will play into Acer’s hands.

Seagate Technology STX has been benefiting from solid demand for mass storage solutions across edge and enterprise markets. Also, improving trend in PC shipments is a positive for this Zacks Rank #2 company, which carries a VGM Score of B.

We believe Seagate’s NAND-supply deal with Toshiba will help it develop advanced HDD, SSD and hybrid solutions. Higher HDD demand from mass capacity storage vertical, driven by data growth at the edge and in the cloud is a positive.

18 Mar 2020

Its research was published in late February, after which the epidemic has expanded rapidly. Many critical components, such as panels, touch sensors and printed circuit boards, come from the badly-hit regions, which will cause a supply crunch heading into Q2 (April-June quarter). As a result, companies are reaching out to the refurbished computers market to meet demand.

probability Sales of computer monitors and laptops are surging as we all work from home, NPD says

05/04/2020 4:55 PM
probability Coronavirus COVID-19 has kept us indoors and, as a result, there’s been a surge in sales of computer accessories like keyboards, mice, monitors and laptops, NPD said on Tuesday. People are outfitting their home offices, some with stipends from their companies.

The surge in PC peripheral sales are a bright spot for companies such as Dell, Samsung, HP, Lenovo and TPV, while the rise in laptop sales suggests the downturn might not be as bad as feared for the PC industry, including giants such as Microsoft and Intel, which have surged more than 18% and 25% respectively from lows in mid-March. Microsoft warned investors in February it would miss quarterly guidance for the segment including Windows because of supply chain interruptions, but said at that time that demand was “strong.”

NPD said computer monitor sales doubled in the first two weeks of March to 80,000 units. Sales of laptops, mice and keyboards all increased by 10%.

Business to business (B2B) sales were up, too. NPD said notebook sales to businesses jumped 30% year over year for the last week in February and up 50% in the first two weeks of March, as companies started to outfit their employees for working at home. B2B monitor sales, flat at the start of February, increased 40% during the first two weeks of March, NPD said.

Anecdotally, monitors seem to be in short supply: During a recent outing to two Best Buy locations, two Staples stores and one Micro Center the first weekend in March, the computer monitors had been picked through. Micro Center had a huge line of people buying computers, printers, accessories and displays for their home offices.

At the same time, widespread quarantines are slowing the mobile revolution. Instead of trying to do everything from our phones, we’re back at our desks. That effect was shown in mobile phone and accessory sales, the latter of which dipped 14% in the first two weeks of March, NPD said

The hard disk drive (HDD) component business, meanwhile will contribute the remaining 75%.

He pointed out that Dufu Technology is planning to allocate RM15mil for its business expansion this year, compared with RM12mil in a year earlier.

“Although the shipment of HDD drives worldwide has decreased, demand for spacers used in HDD unit has surged due to the demand for increased data storage space.

“Previously, a HDD used fewer than five media disks, requiring only four pieces of spacers to separate them.

“Now HDD used in the enterprise segment uses up to nine media disks and requires eight pieces of spacers to separate them,” he added. Yeoh said HDD remained the priority for data centres looking to optimise their total cost of ownership by cramming as in a single storage for home consumers who opt for 10 terabyte plus of data.
