How to avoid the coronavirus? Koon Yew Yin

Author:   |    Publish date:

Yesterday 2 persons living in Golf Vista Condominium, Meru Golf Resort, Ipoh, were tested Covid 19 positive. My sister-in-law and family are living in this block of flats which is about 150 meters away from my house.

Immediately the Golf Resort management sent out circular notice to warn all residents. After I did some research, I am writing this article which you may find useful and like to send it to all your friends to save lives.

Outbreak and spread of the novel coronavirus

Since the end of December 2019, a novel coronavirus has been spreading from the Hubei province in China and has reached many countries worldwide. Unlike an epidemic, which is a regionally occurring contagious disease, a pandemic is a worldwide epidemic that is the case of this novel coronavirus, named recently SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19. You can find an overview of the coronavirus-risk areas on the website of the WHO (World Health Organisation).

The virus spreads typically via small droplets which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales. Another person can then catch the virus by breathing in these droplets or touching objects contaminated by these droplets and then touching its eyes, nose or mouth. The currently known incubation period is maximum of 14 days.

How to reduce the risk of getting infected?

1 No handshaking or kissing on the cheeks

Even if it seems rude at first, refrain from shaking hands with each other. Avoid physical contact in general.

2 Clean your hands frequently

Clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, especially before preparing food, before eating, or when you get home. Always wash your hands after using the toilet or if the hands are visibly dirty.

3 Keep your hands away from your face

Pathogens can easily pass from the hands to the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, and mouth. Avoid touching your face.

4 Hygienic coughing and sneezing

When coughing, “hand over mouth” is well intended, but in doing so you catapult a large number of viruses out of your body, which then stick to your hands. So do not cough into your hands, but rather into your sleeve or a tissue.

5 Discard used tissues immediately

Throw used tissues immediately into the trash – preferably into a container with a garbage bag that you can close tightly and dispose of regularly. Then please wash your hands.

6 Ventilate regularly

In closed rooms, the number of viruses in the air can increase dramatically.

Regularly ventilating a room (three to four times a day for ten minutes) counteracts this and thereby reduces the risk of infection.

It also improves the indoor climate and prevents the mucous membranes of the mouth and nose from drying out.

7 Keep your distance and avoid crowds

Keep the greatest possible distance from other people when coughing, at least 1 meter, to avoid breathing in droplets, which could include the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19, if the person is infected.

8 Pay attention to first symptoms

If you have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, see a doctor as soon as possible. Important: call beforehand so that you are directed straight to the right health facility and thus avoiding to get in touch with too many people. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

9 Do not share objects

Avoid sharing objects and touching surfaces in public spaces as it is known that the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 remains on surfaces. If you think an object may be infected, contaminated, clean it using a surface disinfectant followed by washing your hands.

10 When to use a face mask

The WHO recommends to wear a mask only when you are taking care of a person with suspected COVID-19 infection or when you are coughing or sneezing yourself. In this case the mask is to protect people around you. Always wear a face mask when you are out in public.

pBlue Right now new variants like Indian variant (B1617), S.African variant (B1351) and Brazilian variant (P1) have all adapted to infect young people. As a result they kill young adults at a far higher rate than older covid variants.

These variant can also reinfect people who previously survived covid. In the case of Braizilian variant reinfection rate is now 40-62%, S.A variant is estimated to be 50%. Unknown for Indian variant but given the mutation it has it is estimated to be more capable than S.A variant.

tldr. SARS-Cov2 has adapted to overcome its deficiencies. Being young is no longer any protection. Virus becoming more equal opportunity,

i3lurker why avoid covid?
the survivors are those who got it first while the virus is still mild.
those who survived the early rounds will live coz they will have a stronger immune system.

those who got infected much later with mutated lethal versions almost certain to die.

This goes to prove that some people are really brainless....

18/04/2021 9:01 PM
ahbah also, take vitamin D, please.
18/04/2021 10:21 PM
GrowingRich For those into supplements, virgin coconut oil (vco) is a simple & readily available but rather relatively unknown supplement good for killing virus & building up immune system

it is rich in lauric acid which is converted in the body into monolaurin

monolaurin has been tested to have the ability to kill certain viruses (those with a lipid (fat) based viral envelope or outer coating), plus also strengthening the immune system
18/04/2021 11:37 PM
GrowingRich I find it really weird also that many folks order coconut juice at restaurants etc. but then they don't eat the coconut flesh at all

I mean, what are they so scared of, man

Cholesterol?

Nope, coconut has zero cholesterol, just check it out in google if don't believe
19/04/2021 12:30 AM
GrowingRich Not only is the flesh of young coconut tasty as heck, it's also packed with as much nutrients as the juice, if not more

Becos the flesh is actually the solids contnually deposited from the juice as the coconut fruit grows
19/04/2021 12:30 AM
i3lurker its Chinese medicine lah
if you are not into it you wun understand

juice is cooling and flesh is heaty
the 2 yin and yang balance out inside the nut

so it depends on what you want
19/04/2021 12:36 AM
RiverOfSilver Well I'm quite into traditional medicine, regardless of the origin

Except the parts that I consider as, well, more krap than truth
19/04/2021 12:46 AM
i3lurker the coconut flesh and juice cure had been passed down by word of mouth for many generations.
I still remember my grandmum told me this.

you can call it crap but it still works.
19/04/2021 12:53 AM
RiverOfSilver Aah, but coconut wisdom has been with our people for time immemorial

So we know more about it than you
19/04/2021 1:05 AM
RiverOfSilver I'm in fact having a whole coconut with my late evening meal now

Juice, flesh & all
19/04/2021 1:07 AM
i3lurker so you eat the wood as well?
19/04/2021 1:19 AM
RiverOfSilver ha ha

but the inner part of the shell when very young is actually edible

we eat it like we eat young fruit, with salt, vinegar, sugar & kicap

kind of like as an appetiser cum condiment cum snack kind of thing
19/04/2021 1:29 AM
i3lurker people eat glass, razor blades and stones.
not surprised if some eat wood as well
19/04/2021 1:34 AM
RiverOfSilver A favourite of mine since kiddy times is the 'tumbul', the bulby creamy coloured stuff that grows inside the fruit as soon the coconut starts budding shoot on the outside

Oh, that thing is just mouth wateringly delicious, man
19/04/2021 1:41 AM
ahbah Nasi lemak with coconut santan also got coconut oil which also got vitamin D which protect us from covid 19 !

Therefore, eating nasi lemak is a good defence against covid 19 !
19/04/2021 1:22 PM
FortuneBlooming ha ha okay
19/04/2021 1:26 PM
FortuneBlooming Good news for all nasi lemak kaki
19/04/2021 1:26 PM
ahbah Guaranti okay lah !

DIY n eat your food with coconut oil n U will never fall sick !
19/04/2021 1:35 PM
GrowingRich Very likely it's the lauric acid in the coconut oil that's doing the job

It becomes converted into monolaurin when gone inside the body

The monolaurin then kills bacteria & lipid-enveloped viruses plus also builds up the immune ststem
19/04/2021 2:01 PM
GrowingRich virgin coconut oil (vco) is an even better provider of lauric acid than normal coconut oil

becos vco is extracted via cold press process, without any heat involved at all
19/04/2021 2:05 PM
Alfonso Adui...bro KKY now only u talk about this?? now all this become norm edi, budak tadika also know this....allahai...

LossAversion The SECRET RECIPE is DO NOT BE PARANOID and don't constantly check on the latest stats about covid.. simply because it will "ATTRACT" the covid energy to yourself!!!
19/04/2021 2:43 PM
GoldenHarvest1 Well, the main transmission route has by experience been proven to be airborne transmission
19/04/2021 3:04 PM
GoldenHarvest1 So just stick to strict SOPs + avoid or minimise unnecessary prolonged exposure to big crowds in closed environments e.g. malls, halls etc.
