winbigbursa if everyone have the same outlook/approach to stock market, what will be the result ?
let's agree to disagree,n show respect even to those we strongly disagree, dont make it a personal crusade.

To keep pressing one's own 'enlightened' views as superior/only right way, is to show our own naivety/or Big Ego.

It takes all types of risk profiles to make a vibrate, healthy market.

Important thing is to make money, using whatever approach, you are comfortable with.

winbigbursa What is valued is results , that can be replicated by viewers to make money.

why not change one's own thinking (only factor in one's control) n show how a small guy can grow into a BIG GUY (investment/trading results) using one's perceived 'enlighten' approach.

Results,Results,Results is the main thing...

Wall Street dilemma......the tug of war between cut in interest rates and recessions.

Author: qqq3   |  Publish date: Tue, 11 Jun 2019, 10:24 AM

cut in interest rates............good for shares

recessions...bad for shares.

it always about dilemmas and dichotomies, isn't it?

its always about yin yang, cup half full half empty.

if u glue your eyes on Bloomberg,  their job is to make u buy shares.

well.....I guess if u focus on quality and on investing ie, participating in the growth of excellent companies, it should not bother u very much.

But if u are trader.....................then  trade to the best of your abillities. At the end, make money or lose money, that's all.

Dow up 500 points. Don't be deceived.

Author: qqq3   |  Publish date: Wed, 5 Jun 2019, 10:41 AM

Dow up 500 points on expectations of interest rate cuts. The average interest rates cuts to have any meaningful impact on the real economy is 5% or higher. That is not possible simply because FED rates are below 5% for a long long time already.  FED tools are rather limited if Trump trade disruptions lead to severe down turns.

Equity markets are simply being traded based on hopes and high frequency tradings and both have no relations to actual facts

The nature of Dow has changed over the years.  Nowadays, it  is dominated by high frequency tradings.  It has no meaning other than theme for the day. Traditionally, purists and theorists like to say Dow is 6 months ahead of events, that Dow is a forecasting tool . There is no such any more if it ever did. Do not be deceived.

EngineeringProfit Unlike in the past......for 21st century....

‘cognitive flexibility’ has become more and more important.

This term refers to the brain’s ability to easily switch from thinking about one concept to another, and to think about multiple things simultaneously. Cognitive flexibility allows organisms to update beliefs in light of new evidence, and this trait likely emerged because of the obvious survival advantage such a skill provides. It is a crucial mental characteristic for adapting to new environments because it allows individuals to make more accurate predictions about the world under new and changing conditions.

EngineeringProfit Religious fundamentalism refers to an ideology that emphasizes traditional religious texts and rituals and discourages progressive thinking about religion and social issues. Fundamentalist groups generally oppose anything that questions or challenges their beliefs or way of life. For this reason, they are often aggressive towards anyone who does not share their specific set of supernatural beliefs, and towards science, as these things are seen as existential threats to their entire worldview.

Damage to the vmPFC and dlPFC was associated with religious fundamentalism. Further tests revealed that this increase in religious fundamentalism was caused by a reduction in cognitive flexibility and openness resulting from the prefrontal cortex impairment
31/05/2019 10:20 PM
EngineeringProfit These findings are important because they suggest that impaired functioning in the prefrontal cortex—whether from brain trauma, a psychological disorder, a drug addiction, or simply a particular genetic profile—can make an individual susceptible to religious fundamentalism. And perhaps in other cases, extreme religious indoctrination harms the development or proper functioning of the prefrontal regions in a way that hinders cognitive flexibility and openness.

nothingness The Empty Boat by Chuang Tzu

He who rules men lives in confusion;
He who is ruled by men lives in sorrow.
Tao therefore desired
Neither to influence others
Nor to be influenced by them.
The way to get clear of confusion
And free of sorrow
Is to live with Tao
In the land of the great Void.

If a man is crossing a river
And an empty boat collides with his own skiff,
Even though he be a bad-tempered man
He will not become very angry.
But if he sees a man in the boat,
He will shout at him to steer clear.
If the shout is not heard, he will shout again,
And yet again, and begin cursing.
And all because there is somebody in the boat.
Yet if the boat were empty.
He would not be shouting, and not angry.

If you can empty your own boat
Crossing the river of the world,
No one will oppose you,
No one will seek to harm you.

The straight tree is the first to be cut down,
The spring of clear water is the first to be drained dry.
If you wish to improve your wisdom
And shame the ignorant,
To cultivate your character
And outshine others;
A light will shine around you
As if you had swallowed the sun and the moon:
You will not avoid calamity.

A wise man has said:
“He who is content with himself
Has done a worthless work.
Achievement is the beginning of failure.
Fame is beginning of disgrace.”

Who can free himself from achievement
And from fame, descend and be lost
Amid the masses of men?
He will flow like Tao, unseen,
He will go about like Life itself
With no name and no home.
Simple is he, without distinction.
To all appearances he is a fool.
His steps leave no trace. He has no power.
He achieves nothing, has no reputation.
Since he judges no one
No one judges him.
Such is the perfect man:
His boat is empty.

-Chuang Tzu

nothingness A senior monk and a junior monk were traveling together. At one point, they came to a river with a strong current. As the monks were preparing to cross the river, they saw a very young and beautiful woman also attempting to cross. The young woman asked if they could help her cross to the other side.

The two monks glanced at one another because they had taken vows not to touch a woman.

Then, without a word, the older monk picked up the woman, carried her across the river, placed her gently on the other side, and carried on his
journey.

The younger monk couldn’t believe what had just happened. After rejoining his companion, he was speechless, and an hour passed without a word between them.

Two more hours passed, then three, finally the younger monk could contain himself any longer, and blurted out “As monks, we are not permitted a woman, how could you then carry that woman on your shoulders?”

The older monk looked at him and replied, “Brother, I set her down on the other side of the river, why are you still carrying her?”

--

This simple Zen story has a beautiful message about living in the present moment. How often do we carry around past hurts, holding onto resentments when the only person we are really hurting is ourselves.

We all go through times in life when other people say things or behave in a way that is hurtful towards us. We can chose to ruminate over past actions or events, but it will ultimately weigh us down and sap our energy.

Instead we can choose to let go of what doesn’t serve us anymore and concentrate on the present moment. Until we can find a level of peace and happiness in the present circumstances of our lives, we will never be content, because ‘now’ is all we will ever have.

Gassho.
03/06/2019 7:32 AM
nothingness The story above is not about letting go of the past, as no harm was done in these actions. It is about letting down your self-righteousness, your adherence to dogma over compassion and what needs doing. The older monk did what needed doing without hanging on to any attraction he may have felt. Or worry about dogma. The younger monk was affected because of his own attraction, perhaps, and his youthful adherence to "rules".It is about letting things flow, not resisting them, and doing right action. No resistance, as in meditation.

The findings suggest that damage to particular areas of the prefrontal cortex indirectly promotes religious fundamentalism by diminishing cognitive flexibility and openness—a psychology term that describes a personality trait which involves dimensions like curiosity, creativity, and open-mindedness.

.....China cannot do well when it has to take anti US stand.....but what choice is left to Xi?

Author: qqq3   |  Publish date: Sat, 25 May 2019, 12:01 PM

sad sad moment..................China cannot do well when it has to take anti US stand.....but what choice is left to Xi?

Don't look at current events as just trade war. You will be missing the forest for the trees. Americans are looking at it as war of survival, war to remain Numero Uno, Number One. ......and China  cannot do well when it has to take anti US stand.....but what choice is left to Xi?

Catch 22 - and no good solution.

Its some thing very very diffiult for China to navigate ...and if China sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold.

I recommend people think seriously....stop and think. Decide carefully what you wish to do next?

qqq3 Huawei case is just a replay of what happened to Toshiba.............

Toshiba yesterday, Huawei today!

Thirty years ago, Toshiba exported precision instruments to Russia. The United States has imposed the following penalties on Toshiba Group

1: The Japanese Police Department was ordered to arrest Erhe Lin, President of Toshiba Machinery Foundry, and Hiroshima Tanamura, President of Machine Tool Business, and sentenced to 10 years'imprisonment.

2: Closing Toshiba's factory in the United States

3: A 100% tariff on Toshiba products sold to the United States

4: As an alternative punishment to the previous one, Toshiba's exports to the United States were banned for five years.

5: A huge fine of 1 trillion yen was imposed on Toshiba, equivalent to $16 billion today.

In order to calm the anger of the United States, Japan has imposed severe penalties on Toshiba Group:

First, Japan's semiconductor industry will unconditionally share technology with American companies.

Second, Toshiba spent 100 million yen to publish a full-page apology advertisement in all major newspapers in the United States.

Thirdly, Japan Semiconductor Association invested 9 million US dollars to launch various relations lobbying in the US Congress, and this lobbying has become the most costly lobbying war in history.

Fourthly, the chairman and general manager of Toshiba Group resigned.

Fifthly, by an administrative order issued by the Ministry of Communications, Toshiba is prohibited from exporting any products to 14 countries for a period of one year.

The United States is the master of Japan, Japan can only apologize, which has led to Toshiba gradually losing its past glory.

Toshiba was the hope of Japan's science and technology industry, and also the hope and pillar of Japan's manufacturing. After suffering a heavy blow from the United States, Toshiba went downhill thoroughly.

The U.S. attacked Toshiba not because it sold equipment to the Soviet Union, but because it affected U.S. interests. The United States believes that the Japanese semiconductor industry represented by Toshiba Group seriously threatens the economic interests of the United States, while the Japanese high-end manufacturing plan threatens the United States and challenges the technological hegemony of the United States.

Looking back more than 30 years ago, the experience of Toshiba, Japan, and looking at what the United States is doing today, there are indeed many similarities.

The United States does not allow its high-end manufacturing industry to be challenged at all, nor does it allow its technological hegemony to be challenged. The United States hopes that other countries will all be American workers and will never allow other countries to become shareholders of American interests.

Now targeting Huawei!

4G belongs to United States’ AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint. The world's countries pay more than 10,000 trillion yuan in copyright fees to the four companies in the United States. China's 4G pays US$100 million in annual copyright fees to US companies. If the countries around the world switch to Huawei 5G, the United States will lose more than 10,000 billion yuan of foreign exchange each year, which is set at 20% of the annual GDP of the United States.

Therefore, the United States will not allow 5G in the world.

the United States will destroy Huawei to protect the interests of the United States;

i.e. stopping the loss of at least 20% of USA's GDP.

What a big bully !!!.

Let the world know the true & ulterior reason for USA's insistence on bringing down Huawei.

China to give up communist ideology or not. Or pretend to give up to revive Huawei?

The important point is China today no longer exports communism. Its citizens today have lots of freedom including freedom to go abroad except political freedom. See Kishore Mahbubani 's view on China in UTube.
If China abruptly gives up communism , it would end up like USSR. As the country grow rich, it is able to discard communism.
27/05/2019 2:17 PM
Junichiro That is why I say 'except political freedom.'
27/05/2019 2:21 PM
Junichiro Prior to the CCP coming into power, maps published by UK shows most of the islands in South China Sea as China's territory. Only after the CCP came into power, maps published by UK no longer show the islands as China's territory.
China regards them as its territory but does not care about other lands outside this perimeter. That is its official stand.

Just days past, the United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to force the U.K., which colonized the islands during the Napoleonic wars and now controls them as a British Indian Ocean Territory, to return them to Mauritius, which achieved independence from Britain in the mid-1960s.

The nonbinding vote affirmed a ruling by the International Court of Justice earlier this year holding that “the process of decolonization of Mauritius was not lawfully completed when that country acceded to independence” and that “the United Kingdom is under an obligation to bring to an end its administration of the Chagos Archipelago as rapidly as possible.”

Just look at western hypocrisy. All along, I thought Hong Kong was the last.
