PONTIAN: Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) will continue to help students from low-income families and keep its fees low despite the lack of funding from the Pakatan Harapan government.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said that the university was founded to help students from low-income families who are unable to enter public universities and this would continue.

"I can guarantee that TAR UC will maintain its tradition of being an institution with the lowest and most affordable tuition fees while maintaining quality education.

"We will not compromise on the quality (of education) even though our fees are lower than other private institutions," he said.

He said this to the press when met during a charity dinner to raise funds for TAR UC here on Saturday (Dec 14).

RM300,300 was collected during the event here, which brings the total amount of money raised to about RM600,000 for a donation drive that started during the Tanjung Piai by-election last month.

Dr Wee said this showed that the public believed the good track record of the institution and appreciated its contributions.

Also present was Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng and TAR UC board of governors chairman Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
