PETALING JAYA: Malaysians who are eligible for financial assistance under the stimulus package will have to register themselves with the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), says the Finance Ministry.

Those who have previously registered for Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) need not register.

The Finance Ministry also said that the allocated financial assistance of RM10bil under the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) would be made in two phases – at end of April and May 2020.

"For those who have yet to register (with IRB), new applications can be made beginning April 1 through the official IRB website.

"The public can also contact the Finance Ministry or IRB on their hotlines or other channels," said the statement.

The Finance Ministry also cautioned the public not to fall victim to scammers over the Prihatin package.

"Please refer to official sources only and do not give personal details to any third party," said the Finance Ministry.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced a stimulus package worth RM250bil on March 27 to revive the economy affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Under the stimulus package, households below RM4,000 will receive RM1,600 in cash incentive and that RM1,000 will be paid in April.

Households earning between RM4,001 and RM8,000 will receive RM1,000 cash incentive. The first payment of RM500 will be paid next month.

Single individuals earning RM2,000 and below will receive RM800, with RM500 credited into their account in April.

Meanwhile, single individuals earning between RM2,001 and RM4,000 will receive a total of RM500. The first payment of RM250 will also be made in April.

The Finance Ministry can be contacted at 03-8882 9089/9087/9191/4565/4566 between 9am and 5pm (Sunday to Friday) from March 29.

The public can also contact bsh@treasury.gov, mypre2020@treasury.gov, or the Finance Ministry's Facebook page.

The IRB can also be contacted via 1-800 882 747 or 03-8911 1000 between 9am and 5pm (Sunday to Friday) from March 30.
