PETALING JAYA: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has denied pushing for dissolution of Parliament to pave the way for snap polls, Astro Awani reports.

He dismissed as fake a screenshot from an Umno division leaders' WhatsApp chat group circulating on social media, showing text allegedly written by him.

The message attributed to Ismail read: "Based on the YDPA (Yang di-Pertuan Agong)'s decision just now (Oct 25), a special Cabinet meeting will be held tomorrow (Oct 26) to discuss further action.

"I and other friends in the Cabinet will propose to the Prime Minister to seek an audience with the King and advise to dissolve the Parliament.

"We return the power to the rakyat, to decide on the government.

"On the General Election SOP (standard operating procedure), I will discuss with the Election Commission. Agreed?" he had allegedly asked.

The message was allegedly sent at 11.11pm Sunday (Oct 25).

The screenshot also showed two respondents agreeing, and one of them was allegedly from Johor.

When contacted, Ismail dismissed the entire text messages as fake.

"Fake," he said on Monday (Oct 26).

During his routine press conference on Covid-19, Ismail had always emphasised on the need to verify content before sharing with others.

Meanwhile, Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim had also suggested that "something big" could be brewing.

Shahidan prayed for the survival of Muafakat Nasional, Barisan Nasional, and Perikatan Nasional.

"Ya Allah save this nation. Ya Allah save MN, BN, PN," he said in a Facebook post.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had announced on Sunday (Oct 25) that there was no need to declare a state of emergency amid the Covid-19 pandemic after consulting the Malay Rulers.

The King also reminded all politicians, particularly lawmakers, to immediately put a stop to all forms of politicking that could disrupt the stability of the country, adding that he had confidence in the current administration in dealing with the pandemic.
