Malaysia achieving impressive wins against Covid-19 By Azril Mohd Amin

LETTERS: Malaysia is progressing towards the end of the Covid-19 crisis. By following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's road map initiated during his tenure as prime minister, the country is achieving impressive wins against the pandemic.

The daily Covid-19 death rate has sharply reduced in recent weeks, dropping nearly 70 per cent since the beginning of August. The scale and efficiency of the vaccination rollout is a model for the region and has protected the population against the most severe manifestations of the virus.

Almost three-quarters of the entire adult population has already been fully vaccinated and 90 per cent have received at least the first dose of the vaccine. Some 38.260 million doses of vaccines have been given nationwide since the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP) was launched in February.

Malaysia is on track to achieve herd immunity by the end of October. Indeed, we are where we are today because of Muhyiddin's vision since the onset of the pandemic.

Finance Minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz announced that Malaysia continued to record a net inflow of foreign investor capital with a total of RM7.7 billion recorded for August 2021.

This net inflow of foreign investor capital was driven by the success of the National Recovery Plan which has improved the overall public health situation as well as allowed for the gradual reopening of the economy through the Immunisation Programme.

Malaysia is poised to emerge from the crisis stronger and better than ever before.

In his Malaysia Day address yesterday, Muhyiddin vowed to draw up even more comprehensive plans for the country's recovery and the rejuvenation of all socioeconomic sectors.

His meticulous and prudent approach to state-craft may not be exciting, it may not appeal to those who enjoy political theatrics, but it gets the job done and delivers real-world results that are desperately needed at this critical point in the life of our nation.

Muhyiddin is that rare breed of leader who cares little for fanfare and hype, and who, instead, focuses all his energy on achieving practical improvements in the lives of the rakyat. He has proven that his decisions are not politically motivated but are solely made for the benefit of the people.

He derives no personal or political advantages from the fact that hotel owners in Langkawi, for instance, are today enjoying nearly full occupancy in their establishments; but it is because of him.

The coming weeks and months will increasingly attest to Muhyiddin's invaluable service to the nation, both during his administration and through his leadership of the NRC. He is truly the right man at the right time for Malaysia.
