Honorary Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Taxation; Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, United Kingdom; Fellow of the Chartered Institute Of Management Accountants, United Kingdom (CIMA) and a Chartered Accountant (Malaysia).

He served as Director General of Inland Revenue from 1980 to 1990 and Accountant-General Malaysia from 1990 to 1994. After his retirement from the Government service, he was appointed as Chairman of BSN Commercial Bank (M) Berhad from 1995 to 1999. He was a Board member for several Government agencies and organizations as well as Deputy Chairman of the Employees Provident Fund and Deputy Chairman of the Universiti Pertanian Council. He was the President of CIMA, Malaysia from 1979 to 1993 and a council member of CIMA, United Kingdom from 1990 to 1996. He was awarded the CIMA Gold Medal in recognition of his outstanding services to the accounting profession. He was a council member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) from 1998 to September 2005. Presently, he is a Trustee and a Board Member of Malaysian Accountancy Research and Education Foundation (MAREF) and a member of the MIA Editorial Board. At present, he is also the Chairman of Amanah Saham Mara Berhad.
