He obtained his Cambridge School Certificate and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia in 1963 before he attended the Teacher Training College. In 1981 he served as a School Supervisor at Educational Dept of Tawau for almost 8 years and subsequently appointed as the principal of a primary school, SRJK Yuk Chin till his retirement in 2000.
