Rick is a partner of Actis LLP ("Actis") where he is the Global Head of Equity. He has served on the Private Equity Investment Committee since Fund 4. He has 35 years of private equity experience, including 28 years in emerging markets where he has led investments in 11 countries. After 6 years in the UK private equity industry, he joined the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) in 1993 and has lived for eight years in Sub Saharan Africa making investments in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), primarily across Uganda and Zimbabwe. In 2001, he moved to South East Asia where he led deals including the buy and build of personal care business of Unza, and its subsequent exit. Rick relocated to Cairo in 2008 where he led investments in Egypt including Commercial International Bank (CIB), Edita Food Industries, Integrated Diagnostics Holdings PLC (IDH) and the creation of pan African payments platform Emerging Markets Payments (EMP). Based in London from 2012 as Head of North Africa he led Actis' investment drive into Tunisia and Morocco via Medis Pharmaceuticals and pan African education platform Honoris United Universities. From 2016 to 2018, he was Head of Asia during which time Actis refocused on financial services business, investing in GHL, Profectus Capital and Pine Labs.
