Dato Chew had over 30 years of experience in the accounting profession, handling a portfolio of clients with diverse activities, including banks and financial institutions, utilities, timber-based, manufacturing, trading and foreign investment. He had worked in London from 1963 to 1970. He then joined Turquand Young & Co. Kuala Lumpur (now known as Ernst & Young) as Audit Senior. He was transferred to Ernst & Young Sarawak in 1973 as the Manager in Charge and was promoted to the Partner in Charge in 1977. From 1990 to 1996 he was the Managing Partner of Ernst & Young and a Member of the Ernst & Young International Management Council. He held the position of CEO/Executive Director of Sarawak Enterprise Corporation Berhad from 1999 to 2005. Dato Chew sat on the Boards and Audit Committees of several public listed companies as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
