Gen (R) Tan Sri Dato' Sri started his career with Malaysian Army on 7 Jan 1977 and received his military training as officer cadet at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst United Kingdom. On 7 April 1978, he was commissioned into the Royal Malay Regiment as 2nd Lieutenant.

He has vast knowledge and experience in management, administration, leadership, training and  logistic obtained from the various important positions held throughout 42 year service in the Malaysian Army. Amongst the important positions held by him were as Director of Infantry at Army HQ, commander 4th brigade (mechanise ), Director of Veteran Affairs, General Officer Commanding 4th Infantry Division, Commander Army Field Command and Chief of Army Malaysia.
