Dr Tan graduated with First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering from the Imperial College, UK in 1978. Dr Tan also obtained a Masters and PhD in Engineering Science in 1981 and 1983, respectively, from Harvard University, USA.

Dr Tan has vast experience in the IT industry. As an IT consultant, Dr Tan had worked on leading edge software and hardware development projects with many companies in the global IT industry prior to joining Insas Berhad in 1997 where he currently heads the Technology Division.
