Mr Tan is currently the Honorary Chairman of Persatuan Promosi Perubatan Tradisional Cina Pulau Pinang and actively involves in quarry sector since 1981.

He is a veteran in the construction and property industry having considerable experience working as Project Manager managing various types of real estate developments, such as hotels, factories and infrastructures. Projects that he had assumed are Merlin Hotel Penang, Golden Sands Resort Penang, Rasa Sayang Resort Penang, factory of Hitachi Metals @ Prai, factory of Sony EMCS @ Prai, Teluk Bahang Dam and et cetera. 

His skills and expertise had been sought after across the border, he had overseen the international projects of Shanghai World Trade Centre and Aberdeen Manila Club Hong Kong.

He had also prominently involved in his family-owned trading company known as Sean Thye Sdn. Bhd. which specialised in offering wide range of construction materials, building materials and hardware items for more than 2 decades.
