1972 - 1975: Appointed as Secretary/Advisor in Law at UDA (Perbadanan Pembangunan Bandar) until end of October 1975. He was also the Company Secretary for the various joint venture companies formed by UDA and the various State Corporations.

1972 -1975: Part-time lecturer at the Economic & Public Administration Faculty, University Malaya specializing in Law and Sociology and Diploma of Business Administration, University Technology Mara.

End 1975: Resigned from all positions and started his private practice, Messrs. Mutalib, Sundra & Low which was later, renamed as Mutalib, Wan & Co. Currently he is a Senior Partner in the firm which acts as panel lawyer to financial institutions, public listed companies, government agencies and various others companies.

1980 - 1990: Appointed as Company Secretary of Yayasan Bumiputra Pulau Pinang Berhad, under the purview of Ketua Perhubungan UMNO, Pulau Pinang

YBhg Dato' Abdul Mutalib bin Datuk Seri Mohamed Razak was appointed as the Independent & Non Executive Director and Audit Committee member of Media Prima Berhad on 5 December 2003 and 26 February 2004 respectively.
