He joined Jabatan Telekom Malaysia in 1973. He has been in various senior positions in TM and in 1996, he was appointed as Chief Operating Officer of Telco. In July 1998, he was appointed as Executive Director of TM Group and remained as the Chief Operating Officer of TelCo until 1 February 2001 when he assumed the position of Executive Director, Corporate Strategy and Development. He was then appointed as the Group Deputy Chief Executive/Executive Director of TM from 29 May 2001 until his retirement on 30 June 2004, and remained as an Independent Non-Executive Director.

He was the first Malaysian to be elected as Chairman of Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) in London for 3 terms from September 1999 to November 2002. He also joined the Board of Governor of Intelsat (International Satellite Consortium in Washington DC) for 2 years until its privatisation in 2002. He has completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) from the Harvard Business School and Senior Executive Development Program from the Wharton School of Business, Pennsylvania, USA. He is an Adjunct Professor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
