Member of Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

He has more than 35 years of experience in the fields of accounting and corporate finance and was Finance Director of several private and public listed companies.

He had been instrumental in the successful implementation of several corporate exercises, which included merger and acquisition and corporate debt restructuring exercises undertaken by public listed companies. 

In 1999, Y. Bhg. Dato Gooi was appointed to the Board of Avenue Capital Resources Berhad as a Non-Executive Director and subsequently appointed as Group Managing Director in 2001 and Deputy Chairman in 2004; holding this last post until 2006.  He was also the CEO/Executive Director-Dealing of Avenue Securities Sdn. Bhd.

In 2008, Y. Bhg. Dato Gooi was appointed to the Board of EON Bank Berhad and was subsequently appointed Chairman of the Board in 2009, a position that he held until May, 2012. In 2009, he was appointed to the Board of Amity Bond Berhad and in the same year assumed Chairmanship. In April 2018, he resigned as a Director of both Amity Bond Berhad and AIA Berhad, subsequent to which he was appointed as Director of Bank Negara Malaysia.
