Working Experience
Mr Patrick Houghton Wale joined the Aviva Insurance Group in New Zealand in 1961. Following overseas transfers to Africa and India in the 1970s, he was appointed Country Manager in Hong Kong in 1980, then Country Manager in Malaysia in 1982 followed by promotion to Regional Managing Director for Asia (based in Singapore) in 1990.
In 1998, he led the merger of Commercial Union Assurance Co. Ltd (CU) and General Accident Insurance Asia Ltd (GA) across the Asian region, and the acquisition of Insurance Corporation of Singapore (ICS) in Singapore in 2001.
In 2004, Mr Wale was a member of the Aviva team responsible for selling Aviva Asia’s General Insurance businesses to Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance which resulted in the merger of the two company’s Asian Regional Offices in Singapore and a change of name to MSIG Holdings (Asia) Pte Ltd [“MSIG Holdings”], plus the merger of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd and Aviva Insurance Berhad in Malaysia. Mr Wale became the Chief Executive Officer of MSIG Holdings until his retirement on 1 April 2008.
Mr Wale is currently a director of MSIG Holdings, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd, Singapore International Chamber of Commerce and a deputy chairman and director of MSIG Insurance (Thailand) Co Ltd (formerly known as Aviva Insurance (Thailand) Co Ltd).
