He started his career with the Malaysian Government as a Malaysia Civil Service Officer in 1973 as Assistant Director in the Public Service Department until 1977. Seconded to the National Bureau of Investigation (now the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission), and was in INTAN as Programme Coordinator for Public Enterprises Training before serving as Deputy Director of Petroleum Development in the Prime Minister Department. Also served as Deputy Director of Budget in the Ministry of Finance from 1995 until posted as the Director General of FAMA in the Ministry of Agriculture in 1998. From 2001, he was the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrobased Industry until retitrement in 2006.
Presently, he is the Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Graphene NanoChem PLC, United Kingdom, the Non-Executive Chairman of Herlitz AG, Germany, an Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Pelikan International Corporation Berhad, an Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Platinum Nanochem Sdn. Bhd. and an Independent Director of Heitech Padu Berhad. He is also the Chairman of University of Pendidikan Sultan Idris
