Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Haji Zainul Ariff has served 35 years in the Malaysian civil service in various positions including as Secretary in the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, Director-General of the Social Economic Research Unit in the Prime Minister's Department, Deputy Secretary-General of the Prime Minister's Department, Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Unity And Social Development. He retired from the civil service in June 2004 as Director-General of the Implementation Coordination Unit in the Prime Minister's Department.
