Hj. Lukman bin Hj. Abu Bakar has held various positions in Johor Corporation (JCorp) and its Group of companies since 1982 as a Town Planning Officer. Then, he was promoted as the Deputy Manager in 1989.

In 1992, he was promoted to Manager cum Deputy Secretary of Pasir Gudang Local Authority (currently known as Pasir Gudang City Council). In 1993, he joined Sindora Berhad as the Deputy General Manager and was promoted as the General Manager in 1995. On 1 January 2006, he was appointed as the Senior General Manager of JCorp. 

He was appointed as the President of Pasir Gudang Municipal Council when the Pasir Gudang Local Authority was upgraded as a full-fledged Municipal Council on 1 July 2008 and served until 31 August 2009, upon the Council was handed over to the administration of the State Government of Johor. Thereafter, he was promoted as a Senior Vice President in JCorp on 1 September 2009. 

He was appointed as the Managing Director of Johor Land Berhad (JLand) in 1 January 2010 and the Senior Vice President/Chief Executive of Property Division of JCorp since 1 January 2011 until his retirement on 7 November 2019. Upon his retirement, JCorp appointed him as the Business Advisor of JLand until 9 May 2020.

During his tenure as senior management staff of JCorp, he also holds chairmainship and directorship of companies within the Group.
