Appointed as a Director of the Company on 21 April 1997. He began his career as a Construction Engineer with National Electricity Board ("NEB")(presently known as Tenaga Nasional Berhad) in 1973. He left NEB in 1981 to join Arab-Malaysian Development Berhad ("AMDB") which he has held several senior positions including General Manager (Properties) from 1981-1988, General Manager (Textiles) from 1988 to 1990, Senior General Manager (Properties) between 1990 to 1993 and as an Executive Director of AMDB until 1995. Dato' Azhar has a wide circle of business affiliations and has establised himself as a successful entrepreneur. His service to the country and industry was recognised by the award of the title Dato' in 1996 by the Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan.
