- Datuk (Dr.) Hafsah has vast experience in public sector administration and has served in several ministries including Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Primary Industries.
- She served the Government of Malaysia for 36 years 2 months before retiring on 15 August 2018, during which she held several senior positions including:
   - Chief Executive Officer, SME Corporation Malaysia.
   - Secretary to the National SME Development Council.
- Currently, Datuk (Dr.) Hafsah is on the Advisory role to the Board of Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad.

  - Vice President, Asia and Oceana under the International Small Business Congress Steering Committee.
  - Senior Vice President (Development) of the International Council for Small Business from June 2015 to June 2016.
