Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Production Engineering and Production Management, University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.

He ventured into the private sector in 1988 in mechanical systems and later obtained a Lead Assessor's Certificate and subsequently became the Quality and Safety Advisor to a large engineering, procurement, management and cointracting company. In 1992, he joined Technological Acquisitions Profiles Sdn Bhd, a firm of quality systems consultants, efficiency engineers, safety and health advisors and environmental auditors.
He served as honorary secretary of the Technical Association of Malaysia, Executive Committee Member of the Confederation of Scientific and Technological Organisations of Malaysia and sat on the SIRIM Committee on Environmental Performance Evaluation.
He is also Senior Consultant to the Centre for Organisational Research in Brussels, and Permanent Representative to South East Asia of the World Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, an organisation within the United Nations.
