Graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University College of Wales Aberystwyth with a joint honours Degree in Economics and International Politics in 1982. A Master's of Degree in Business Administration from City University of London.

He is the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Rio Capital Sdn Bhd ("RCSB"), a private investment holding company. He is also currently a member of the Listing Committee of Bursa Malaysia Berhad.

In 1994, Amin Rafie Bin Othman joined Rashid Hussain Asset Management Sdn Bhd ("RHAM) as General Manager. He was then appointed to the Board of RHAM. At RHAM, he was responsible for the management of RM550 million and business development and client liaison functions. He was instrumental in launching the RHB Islamic Index for KLSE based Syariah Funds. He was an Executive Director of Smith Zain Securities Sdn Bhd and the asset management company of PJB Pacific Capital Group in 1999 and 2002 respectively. During his tenure as Chief Executive Officer and Director of Mayban Investment Management Sdn Bhd, the company's fund size under management grew from RM2 billion to RM4 billion. He then left in September 2004 to join RCSB. He was also the Chairman of the Malaysian Association of Asset Managers from 2003 to 2004.
