Working Experience
Datuk Ali Abdul Kadir is the Senior Advisor of Ernst & Young, Malaysia and presently, sits on the board of the Labuan Offshore Financial Services Authority. He was appointed by the Minister of Finance as Chairman of the Securities Commission ("SC") on 1 March 1999. He also chaired the Capital Market Advisory Council and was a member of a number of national committees including the National Economic Consultative Council II, the Foreign Investment Committee and the Oversight Committee of Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad. He was also a Trustee of the Financial Reporting Foundation, which oversees the financial reporting framework in Malaysia, and had served on the Finance Committee on Corporate Governance. In addition, Datuk Ali Abdul Kadir also a Trustee of the Accounting and Auditing Organistion for Islamic Financial Institutions from November 2000 to October 2003.
He was also actively involved in international regulatory circles. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the International Organisation of Securities Commission ("IOSCO") and Chairman of IOSCO's Asia Pacific Regional Committee and of its Islamic Capital Market Task Force.
Prior to his appointment as Chairman of SC, Datuk Ali Abdul Kadir was the Executive Chairman and partner of Ernst & Young. He was also the former President of the then MICPA, chairing both its Executive Committee and Insolvency Practices Committee, and co-chairing the Company Law Forum.
He is a substantial shareholder of the Company by virtue of his substantial shareholding in Rio Capital Sdn Bhd (formerly known as Atlas Premier Sdn Bhd), the holding company of RC One Sdn Bhd (formerly known as Quest Spectrum Sdn Bhd)
