Tan Sri Nik Awang @ Wan Azmi bin Wan Hamzah is a qualified Chartered Accountant. Having completed his accounting studies in London in 1974.
Tan Sri Nik Awang @ Wan Azmi bin Wan Hamzah returned home to work in various sectors including plantations, media and newspapers, real estate development and banking. In 1985, he became CEO of Malaysias largest banking group, Maybank. He left Maybank to embark on an entrepreneurial career building up significant business interests in real estate, tobacco, direct selling and marketing, manufacturing and financial services. Away from Malaysia, he invested in hotels in Sri Lanka and mining and exploration in Fiji, Ecuador, Papua New Guinea and South Africa. Currently, his significant investments includes cement production in Kazakhstan, development of stevia as a natural substitute sweetener, and the REI steel fabrication business and real estate interests in Malaysia and Australia.
