Fabien Extraordinaire possible, as their assets have not been revalued since the 1970s. if u add in the hotels as well.

Jon Choivo RNAV is closer to 20.

Fabien Extraordinaire perhaps Oriental can follow the footsteps of Sime Darby by unlocking much of the hidden assets, make it leaner and at the same time increase the dividends payout, ROE etc.

but seriously, you won't find a cash generating machine elsewhere that is comparable to Oriental

FAIRnREASONABLE Anyone can comment on the financial impact of the land reclamation in Melaka?
Will it contribute significantly?
10/06/2018 4:25 PM
FAIRnREASONABLE Hotel business in Malaysia is generally not profitable.
I am pleasantly surprised that OHB's hotel division contributes decent profit.

Choivo Capital I decided there is not need for me to go into net cash companies that have shit business.

When they are decent businesses that are more undervalued even on a NTA basis. Such as orient, plenitude etc.

However, im always very tempted to just buy like 1-2% just because its so cheap and it just feels like picking up free money.

i don't know much about eksons. but i have similar experience before. got my money stucked in FACBInd, trading significantly below net cash. but business is unexciting.

lost my patience after 4 years and liquidated at decent profit

Fabien Extraordinaire assets play consists 25% of my portfolio

but these companies must be profitable and at least decent growth
10/06/2018 5:45 PM
Choivo Capital Other than Orient and OSk, what do you have? For net asset plays?
10/06/2018 7:38 PM

Other than Orient and OSk, what do you have? For net asset plays?
10/06/2018 8:34 PM
FAIRnREASONABLE Both Orient and OSK fulfill
1) High NTA, resulting in low Price/Book Value (NTA) less than 0.5
2) Profitable consistently, resulting in PE less than 10
3) Diversified incomes, resulting in less volatility in combined business sectors
4) Consistent dividends, resulting in better return (in addition to price appreciation) than fix deposits in bank
5) Future growth

Of course, confidence in top management & controlling shareholder is another top consideration. Trust deficit in top management often leads to "undervalued" share price
10/06/2018 8:38 PM
Choivo Capital Id suggest you take a look at plenitude, daiman and KSL as well.

Choivo Capital Tropicana is also decent.
11/06/2018 8:20 PM
Fabien Extraordinaire Oh, I owned Plenitude and Daiman 6 or 7 years ago. Liquidated my positions with decent profit. I also made good profit from Kuchai, KSeng, Goldis and PMCorp.

So assets play have been quite a success to me personally.

Fabien Extraordinaire But i have to say need a lot of patience. Perhaps i'm lucky.

Not so much patience for FACBInd though. Hahaha...gave up on the company. Return over 3 years barely beat FD.

Oh ya, i also made decent profit on Paramount.

I think that's all i had in regards to assets play, over my 9 years of investing journey.

By the way, I also owned TA.

kakashit Why no analysts initiate on Oriental when they are plenty of City, Accord, Civic, CRV..HRV...BRV on the road start with licence plate V
03/10/2018 11:33 AM
klchai123 holding all in about RM3.9 bullion cash, implies cash per share > rm6, with higher eps, dividend for 2018 should increase further. medical centre in melaka about to breakeven, car sales for quarter ended 30/9 should at least be maintained if not better. if finacial crisis do happen, big pile of cash can do wonder!
02/11/2018 11:38 PM
Fabien Extraordinaire Ben Graham or Peter Lynh would have love Oriental.
03/11/2018 9:05 AM
kyy_superinvestor i feel that oriental is going up within six months...cheer..
17/11/2018 4:35 PM

16/01/2019 10:44 AM
Fabien Extraordinaire wah very close to mine

my cost price is 6.16

i bought Orient many years ago, sometime around 2014 i think at 5++, sold within a year at 9++

3iii said orient is a value trap. i dont mind waiting 10 or 20 years for value to emerge. coz i know Orient is worth more than RM15.
17/01/2019 5:33 PM
Icon8888 Sometime no need to think too much. Just dumb dumb hold

To be honest my stake not big so I don't mind if it is not very sexy
17/01/2019 5:40 PM
Fabien Extraordinaire abeerdeen dumped their shares as they ran out of patience. end of day fund managers have to correct their underperformance. they cant afford to be like us, holding 10 or 20 years. orient, in terms of share price, has been trading within a tight range for years.
17/01/2019 5:44 PM
klchai123 dividend yield us attractive for low risk counter
26/01/2019 9:42 AM
LouiseS The EPS is on increasing trend, in last 5 years increased by around 43%, the PE ratio is reasonable, around 8, the ROE is 7.68%, dividend yield is 6.18%

tengts57 Aberdeen n EPF disposing yet price increasing. Who is buying?
27/02/2019 2:01 PM
klchai123 cash and cash equivalent exceeded 4.3 billion, implies cash per share of rm7. just wait for 2018 audit and the ginal dividend announcement in April
01/03/2019 8:10 AM
kahhoeng While Oriental cash and equivalent is approximately 4.4 billion, it does have borrowing, short- and long-term, totalling 1.9 billion. So, Oriental's net cash and equivalent is only 2.5 billion, still a very sizeable number, that's equivalent to approximately 4.00 per share!
05/03/2019 6:01 PM
klchai123 should declare dividend this week based on previous yr practice. further declaration of dividend expected end of April when 2018 audited acs are ready for AGM
10/03/2019 8:31 AM
klchai123 declared 6 sen 2nd interim dividend as expected. the more excited one should be end of April.
11/03/2019 7:21 PM
Fabien Extraordinaire Last year 20sen was special dividend, one off.
05/04/2019 2:39 PM
klchai123 final dividend of 8 sen n special dividend 20 sen again! just announced
09/04/2019 7:57 PM
FAIRnREASONABLE Great! So the 20+8 sen is a regular dividend policy now.
09/04/2019 10:09 PM
Fabien Extraordinaire very good. 28sen dividend :)
10/04/2019 10:19 AM
kahhoeng 0.40 dividend per year for 2 years straight. Hope this will be the minimum dividend going forward, hurray!
10/04/2019 10:25 AM
Fabien Extraordinaire i believe they can even increase the payout if they want to. cash is piling up. very healthy FCF generation.
10/04/2019 10:33 AM
Fabien Extraordinaire Orient, a defensive stock in portfolio, above 6% yield
10/04/2019 3:32 PM
Kensington I believe Orient is taking a short breather before continuing its ascent.
11/04/2019 2:38 PM
